Avacta Animal Health offers equine allergy testing using our ELISA based serology, that can detect allergen-specific IgE against 56 different allergens. Details of these allergens can be found in our allergen list.
Our Practice Portal contains a large amount of information regarding submitting and taking samples, among many other helpful resources. Use the link below to log in and find out more!
Avacta Allergy + Complete Environmental, Insect & Food
This test includes the equine environmental panel, the insect panel, and the food panel.
By measuring allergen-specific IgE antibodies present in the serum, the Avacta Allergy+™ environmental test can help to identify environmental allergens for both allergen avoidance purposes and to select for inclusion in allergen-specific immunotherapy (ASIT).
Serological testing enables you to provide additional management and therapeutic options (such as ASIT) for allergy cases. Only by identifying relevant allergens are you able to offer all long-term solutions as part of an effective management programme for this life-long condition.
The Avacta Allergy+™ Environmental test contains allergens from the following groups:
By measuring allergen specific IgE antibodies present in the serum, this equine-specific test can help to identify insect allergens to enable both management changes to take place, and for inclusion in allergen specific immunotherapy (ASIT).
The Avacta Allergy+™ Insect test contains the following allergens:
The only way to diagnose a food allergy is by conducting a diet trial. Using the Avacta Allergy+™ food test can help identify which foods are the most appropriate to use for the diet trial.
The Avacta Allergy+™ food test measures allergen-specific IgG and IgE antibodies against food allergens, and is designed to assist in the selection of foods that are suitable for an elimination diet trial. The results of the test are printed in a clear visual format to help with owner understanding and engagement; in turn, helping to promote stricter compliance.

Avacta Allergy + Screens
Screens are available for both food and environmental panels, and offer a positive or negative result only. Screens can be expanded on request.
Avacta Allergy+™ screens provide a cost-effective solution if you suspect allergic disease. Using the same ELISA based technology as our other allergy tests, the results will show you either a single positive or a negative result to each mixed allergen panel. You can then investigate further if desired, by expanding any positive allergen panel to gain individual allergen results.
This allergy screening provides an economic method for allergen investigation identification and, following expansion of any panels with positive results, is an excellent precursor to allergen-specific immunotherapy and targeted allergen avoidance.
